One group, one vision
The Trustees are a group of local people who wish to see the Carnegie fully in use, with a sustainable income that secures its future. In keeping with Andrew Carnegie’s vision, the Trustees wish to ensure that space is always available at Carnegie for lifelong learning – from out-of-school provision through to work skills improvement, literacy and citizenship classes or simply learning something new, at any age.
I lived in Herne Hill for over 30 years and have strong local connections through family and range of interests. During my career in the criminal justice system I have worked as a probation officer, as assistant general secretary for the Probation Trade Union and as senior manager in national police training.
I am currently Acting Chief Executive of the Probation Institute, Trustee at Carnegie Community Trust CIO, Spires Homeless Centre and Making It Out CIO in Brighton.
I am a member of the Labour Party, of a local book group, a keen swimmer and yoga enthusiast. I am ambitious for Carnegie and believe that our broad community can develop this much loved building into a centre for learning, work, performance, arts, fitness activities and good fun. I am prepared to work hard with my co-trustees to make this happen and hope you will share this exciting work with us.

Yamila Baqouah Karraz
Born in Spain and based in UK since 1994, I moved to Lambeth in 2001, and from day one felt like home. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. I have worked in the Hospitality and Music Industries for more than 25 years.
I feel extremely happy and honoured of being part of the Carnegie Community Trust CIO, as a Trustee and Treasurer and I am hoping to reach and help as many people of the community through great work and communication.
Outside of work, I am a huge people-person. I love going to gigs, concerts, theatres, gym classes and travel whenever I can. I am very committed to continuous education, meeting new people and learning new things. I am fluent in Spanish and French (and I speak a little Arabic) and I am always looking to brush up my language skills and travel whenever I can.
After many years living and working between Asia, New York and London I settled in Brixton in 2016.
I began my career in the art world 20 years ago and struck out on my own as a freelance consultant in 2019.
